SRINAGAR: The 3rd Board of Directors (BoDs) meeting of Kashmir Power Distribution Company Limited (KPDCL) was  held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Power Development Department, Rohit Kansal at Civil Secretariat here today.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, Managing Director KPDCL, Mohammad Aijaz Asad while as Annepu Suresh from Central Electricity Authority, Vishal  Kapoor representative from Ministry of Power, GOI and others participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

The BoDs held a detailed discussion on improving the IT infrastructure of the Company besides other impediments faced by it for effective service delivery to the public.

The Board approved an amount of Rs. 34.89 crore for improving the IT infrastructure under Annual Maintenance Contract service. This will include upgradation  of Data Center cum Customer Care Centre.

The Board permitted KPDCL to hire the services of IT consultants for improving security, firewalls, intrusion prevention system, intrusion detection system, access control switches and other online services in view of the recent ransom ware attack on the data centre of the Company.

The Board also approved the plans for setting up an HR consultancy for recruiting the staff on fast track basis in order to overcome the requirement of additional manpower besides operationalising other divisions of the KPDCL.

The Board accorded sanction to operationalisation  of welfare fund for the employees in order to meet any exigency of them in case of death, injury or any other issue.

The Board also approved establishment of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) and Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) for online fault rectification. These systems  will provide real time monitoring and control software applications besides analysing system behaviour in response to operator actions.

On the occasion MD, KPDCL informed the Board that out of 103 servers of Data Centre, 98 servers have been fully restored while the process of restoration on remaining servers is going on.

It is pertinent to mention that the data centre was recently plagued by a ransom ware attack.
